Bhubaneswar: Worried about facing hassles while lodging police complaint regarding a crime during train travel? Well, help is at hand as the Indian Railways has decided to bolster its complaint redressal system so that passengers can lodge FIRs during their journey from the train itself.

According to sources, even though the system for live registration of passenger complaint is in place, Railways is looking to strengthen the system. Now passengers can file their FIR by collecting an application form from the train ticket conductor and file it following which the concerned personnel will deposit it in the nearby station.

The Railway Board has also directed 14 Government Railway Police stations to strictly implement the guidelines.

Railway IGP Raja Ram said that the new system will help in quick registration of complaints, faster probe into cases and ensure quick action by the police.

Similarly, Chittaranjan Nayak, Bhubaneswar Station Manager also assured to take prompt action in ensuring that there is strict adherence to the new system.

Passengers have also welcomed the decision of the Railways. It would reduce delays because the GRP will immediately take action after being informed by the nearest station where the incident occurs.

As per data available with the Bhubaneswar GRP, around 212 criminal offences were recorded in trains under its jurisdiction in 2018 while in 2019 so far, 97 cases have been registered. Out of the total cases, 50 per cent of the incidents happened during journey.
