Bhubaneswar: Finance minister Shashi Bhusan Behera today tabled the supplementary budget of Rs 12,790 crore in the State Assembly amid ruckus by the BJP members.
The State government made budgetary allocation of Rs 750 crore for salary towards regularisation of ‘Sikhya Sahayaks’, Rs 350 crore was allocated for loan repayment and Rs 41 crore for simultaneous poll.
While Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water department received the highest allocation of Rs 3141.74 crore, Rural Development department has been allocated Rs 2269.55 crore. The Disaster Management Department will get Rs 1414.76 crore.
Out of the programme expenditure provision of Rs 9,611 crore, Rs 6,097 crore has been allocated for infrastructure and rural development sector, said Behera.
A provision of Rs 400 crore is made under BASUDHA scheme to provide drinking water, Rs 1500 crore for Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana and Rs 2,065 crore for Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana.
The BJP legislators created din over teachers’ issues following which Speaker Pradip Amat adjourned the House proceedings till 10.30 AM tomorrow
Earlier in the day, the House was adjourned till 11.30 AM and later another adjournment till 12.30 PM after an uproar by the Congress and BJP legislators.
As soon as the House assembled for the day, Congress members marched into the well and shouted slogans against the government over fuel price increase whereas BJP legislators created a din over teachers’ issues. Unable to run the House, the Speaker made the second adjournment for the day till 12.30 PM.
“Both ruling-BJD and BJP are playing drama. When Congress was in power at the Centre, diesel and petrol price were being reviewed regularly. During that time, price of raw diesel was high but we managed to rein in the prices,” said Tara Prasad Bahinipati, Congress chief whip.
Clearing his party’s stand, BJP MLA Pradip Purohit stated that the party raised the teachers’ issues in the House. "Thousands of teachers have been staging agitation in front of the Assembly over various demands.

At a time when the country is celebrating Teachers’ Day, the State government should consider to fulfil the demands instead of only assuring them. Because of the teacher agitation, schools are locked up and educational system in dire state,” Purohit said.
“Our party also opposes the hike in petrol and diesel prices. But for that matter not letting the House run is unfortunate. It should have been raised at the appropriate forum. Many important issues were slotted to be discussed today. Besides, the government is considering the teachers’ demands. There is no reason to disrupt functioning of the House,” said BJD MLA Samir Das.
