Sambalpur: Hours after claiming that the COVID 19 antigen tests conducted on some students of Burla Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) were done through faulty kits, Odisha State Medical Corporation (OSMC) on Tuesday issued show-cause notices to 2 firms who had supplied the kits to VIMSAR, Burla

The show cause notice has sought response from the Delhi and Haryana based firms, Oscar Medcare and Alpine Bio-medicals respectively within three days.

Writing to Alpine Bio-Medicals, OSMC stated, "It has been brought to the notice that the batch of Rapid Antigen Detection Kits for SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19) having Batch No LCOVG-41220 supplied to VIMSAR, is showing false positive results of COVID-19 suspects, which is a matter of serious concern. You are hereby called upon to show cause as to why OSMCL shall not take action against your firm for supply of defective/non-standard Rapid Antigen Detection Kits for SARS CoV-2 (COVID-19), within 3 (Three) days from issue of this notice."

A similar notice was also sent to the Delhi based supplier, Oscar Medcare asking it to revert back in connection with the matter in three days.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Additional Chief Secretary (Health) Pradipta Mohapatra created an online storm by claiming that the positive reports came due to faulty coronavirus testing kits.

The COVID-19 outbreak news in VSSUT had triggered an alarm thereby forcing the district administrative officials to review the situation and later on announced hostels as containment zones.
