Bhubaneswar: Several political parties and outfits have strongly condemned the large-scale violence which was witnessed during farmers’ protest in Delhi on the occasion of Republic Day today. Hundreds of protesting farmers swarmed the historic Red Fort after their 'Kisan Gantantra Parade' turned violent.

It is pertinent to mention here that Delhi Police had earlier granted permission to the tractor rally by the farmers after they assured to conduct the event ‘peacefully.’

However, several groups deviated from the route identified by police and entered the iconic Red Fort and ITO in the heart of national capital.

The farmers had planned the tractor rally as part of their ongoing protests against the Central agricultural laws. Several groups of farmers allegedly indulged in vandalism of public property and targeted police personnel deployed for Republic Day security.

Nabanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS), the leading farmers' outfit in Odisha condemned violence during farmers' tractor rally in Delhi.

“Some people who don't belong to united farmers' front resorted to such cheap act which is condemnable. The government should take action against them,” said NNKS National Convenor, Akshay Kumar.

Golak Mohapatra, BJP leader from Odisha also condemned the large-scale violence during the tractor rally in Delhi.

“Some anti-socials with vested interests misused the government's permission for a peaceful protest. Instead of agitation, farmer leaders should set up committee and hold talks with the government as per the Supreme Court order,” said Mohapatra.
