Bargarh: Normal life was hit in Bheden block of the district today after different farmer bodies observed a 12-hour bandh demanding immediate disbursal of crop insurances by the state government.

The bandh that started at 6am has received support from various organizations including the Bheden's citizen committee, traders association and social service committees. Similarly the Western Odisha farmers' co-ordination committee and Jai Kisan Andolan have extended their support towards the bandh, informed sources.

The farmer activists held road blockades at several key points in the block leading to disruption of normal traffic. Business establishments, shops, markets, schools and colleges remained closed in the area, while vehicular movement was partially affected.

Earlier, the farmers had locked up the Bheden Cooperative office for two days demanding immediate release of the crop insurances.

Meanwhile, the district administration has taken adequate steps to avoid any untoward incidents in view of the shutdown.
