Farmer suicide in Odisha again over crop loss, debt burden

Titlagarh: A farmer has allegedly committed suicide in Madiguda village under Bhabanipatna block in Kalahandi district.

The deceased Bahadur Rana had consumed pesticides yesterday and died while undergoing treatment at Titlagarh hospital today.

"He consumed pesticides at his agriculture field yesterday as the crops failed," said Makarand Rana, son of the deceased.

According to reports, Rana had taken loan of Rs. 3 to 4 lakhs from various banks and other private money lenders for cotton farming on four acres of land.

However, he was extremely disappointed over the crop loss due to deficit rainfall and pest attack.

Following the incident, Rana was rushed to Titlagarh Hospital in a critical condition.
