Farmer ends life over debt burden in Odisha
Balasore: A mushroom farmer allegedly committed suicide at Nuapur village under Soro Police limits here on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Gayadhar Jena (65).
Family members of the deceased alleged that Jena committed suicide due to crop loss and debt burden.”My father went to our mushroom farm as usual this morning. Later, when we went there, found him dead and his body was hanging from the ceiling of the room. He took the extreme step as he was under severe stress for the past few days following crop loss and debt burden,” said Gayadhar’s son, Gautam Jena.
“We had taken a loan of Rs 2 lakh from the cooperative bank here and also borrowed money from other sources for cultivation,” he added.
Meanwhile, Soro Police has seized the body and sent it for post-mortem.
