Dhenkanal: Amid strict adherence to the Covid-19 protocols, the famous Magha Mela of Mahima cult at Joranda in the district has begun on Thursday with a low key manner. The fair will continue for three days.

With fear of Covid-19 resurgence, the district administration has imposed certain restrictions for entry of sadhus and devotees into the Mahima Gadi. Devotees from outside the district and State have been barred to entre the premises while Sadhus from outside will be allowed following a rapid antigen test.

After the Covid test, 50 local devotees will be allowed at a time to enter the temple for only 10 minutes with social distancing and use of masks. The campus will be sanitised regularly. Similarly, Sadhus will be allowed in similar manner to conduct rituals on the temple premises.

Elaborate security arrangements have been put in place for strict enforcement of the Covid guidelines.  Decision to impose restriction had been taken at a meeting chaired by Collector Bhumesh Chandra Behera.

Rapid antigen test were also conducted at Joranda for the Sadhus who came from outside.

The administration has restricted entertainment activities like Opera show, movie and other cultural programmes as these activities attract huge congregations.

Traders from in and outside the State, who usually do a brisk business in the fair every year, have been barred to set up stalls this time.

The administration has allowed local traders to do business. Some stalls with handicraft and other local products have been set up by the Regional Industries Centre and Mission Shakti groups.
