Cuttack: After a series of raids on illegal food adulteration units in Cuttack, the Commissionerate Police on Friday busted fake tobacco and pan masala manufacturing unit in the Silver City and arrested one person in this connection.

The illegal unit was unearthed at Sasol village, around 10 kilometres away from the city, under Cuttack Sadar police limits during a raid by the police. A huge quantity of duplicate tobacco products and chemicals were seized from the factory. Besides, packets carrying fake logos of many top brands were seized.

Cuttack Sadar Police Station IIC, Sudhansu Bhusan Jena informed, "Acting on a tip-off, police conducted the raid in the house and seized huge quantity of duplicate tobacco products and different varieties of chemicals imported from Kolkata. The manufacturing unit is running in the house since 2007."

The main accused has been arrested and taken for interrogation. We are investigating the source of raw materials for making the fake tobacco, added the IIC.

Earlier on November 23, Cuttack police raided a duplicate gutkha (tobacco) manufacturing unit at the Jagatpur Industrial Estate and seized fake tobacco products worth lakhs of rupees. Several other items including raw materials, labels used in the manufacture of the duplicate gutkha products were also seized from the unit.
