Bargarh:  Police on Wednesday arrested a gang of four persons in Bargarh for allegedly demanding extortion by posing as journalists.  According to sources, while one of the miscreants has been identified as Tapan Kumar Sahu from Bhaskarasahi in Khurda, the others are Anuj Aggarwal from Noida, Bishal Gambhir from Bulandshahr and Imran Khan from Ghaziabad.

According to reports, the four miscreants posing as journalists from Tehelka news agency allegedly black-mailed one Manoj Kumar Satpathy, the manager-in-charge of District Industries Centre (DIC), Bargarh. They extorted around Rs.20,000 from him and  had forcibly taken him to the bank to withdraw another Rs.50,000.

However, the four were arrested after Satpathy lodged a complaint regarding the incident with Bargarh Police.

“Manoj Satpathy lodged a complaint yesterday against four persons claiming to be Tehelka news agency journalists. They extorted Rs.20,000 from Satpathy on June 12 and had returned yesterday for more money. We have arrested the four accused,” said Bargarh SDPO, Khirsagar Nayak.

Police have seized booms, cameras, fake identity cards, mobile phones, tablet and around Rs. 19,680 cash from the accused.
