Paradip: At a time when there is still panic among people due to Coronavirus, a racket involved in sale of fake COVID-19 negative certificates to people during this pandemic has shocked people of Odisha.

One person, identified as Kalandi Tarai, has been arrested in connection with the incident. Tarai hails from Dalimipur in Paradip of Jagatsinghpur district and running a Xerox (Photocopy) centre.

As per reports, Tarai along with the help of others was earlier issuing fake COVID-19 negative certificates to people at Rs 300. Later, he reduced the price and charged around Rs 70 for one certificate.

Sources said that racket was mostly targeting labourers and allegedly used to issue fake gate-passes to them to gain entry at IOCL.

In the fake COVID certificates, the accused had forged signatures and created fake rubber stamp of a government and a private doctor.
