Bhubaneswar: A first of its kind initiative, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has come up with yet another unique 'Go Green' campaign urging the denizens to stop the practice of exchanging gifts that create non-biodegradable waste burden and adopt exchange of eco-friendly gift items in the Temple City from this New Year onwards. The outlook which has collectively come from BMC, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) has sought cooperation and active participation from the city residents, which will ultimately help in achieving the green objective.

The city authorities have appealed people to exchange 'Green Gifting ideas' from this New Year in order to reduce the volume of plastic waste with a collective responsibility to keep Smart City Bhubaneswar clean and green.

"As a cultural practice of gifting things during the festive season, always try to gift items which will have least burden on our urban environment. It is largely seen that during festivities people tend to exchange loads of gifts, which finally create a lot of non-biodegradable waste burden in the city. Thus we appeal all to come up with innovative ideas and gift plants, books and souvenirs representing local art and crafts etc so that there will be no need of plastic materials to pack them and ultimately generate minimal or zero waste," mentioned BMC in its 'Go Green' appeal.

The city authorities further requested all denizens to join hands together and make this 'Go Green' campaign a huge success at personal, institutional as well as community-level to add value to the Liveability Index of the city.
