Bhubaneswar: The court of the District and Sessions judge, Khordha on Wednesday granted bail to former director of Odisha Infratech Private Limited, Manoranjan Sarangi, who was arrested in connection with the Sarua land issue.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch, probing the case, had picked up Sarangi from his house in Bhubaneswar on November 1 and subsequently put him under arrest. The EOW had also obtained his custodial remand for questioning.

Earlier, Sarangi had alleged that the Crime Branch officials subjected him to inhuman treatment during detention for several hours after they picked him up in the wee hours. The alleged ill-treatment of Sarangi had drawn sharp criticisms and condemnation from several quarters.

Political leaders, cutting across party lines, had termed the incident as unfortunate, violation of Human and Constitutional rights and vindictive action at the behest of the Odisha government.

Significantly, a Tehsil-appointed government ‘amin’ had given a clean chit in this regard and confirmed that there was no encroachment of land at Sarua.
