Bhubaneswar: A four-member team of Chhattisgarh Police on Monday arrived in Odisha and launched investigation by visiting the residence of prime accused Anup Sai in connection with the sensational double murder of a woman and her minor daughter in 2016.

Ex-MLA and former BJD leader Anup Sai and his driver Burdhan Toppo were arrested last week by Raigarh Police for their alleged involvement in the double murder case.

The Chhattisgarh Police team also visited Lamitibahal SBI branch to examine the bank accounts of Sai which the cops claim could play a crucial role as evidence in the entire investigation.

Moreover, notices have been served to several people including a relative of deceased Kalpana Das to appear in person at police station tomorrow. Accused Anup Sai’s nephew has also been summoned, police sources said.

"Chhattisgarh Police came and handed over a notice to record statements at the police station," said deceased Kalpana’s relative.

According to police, Kalpana Das along with her daughter were brutally killed by Anup Sai and his driver Burdhan Toppo in 2016. After the murder, the duo tried to cover up the crime by running vehicles over the bodies of Kalpana and her daughter.

Both Sai and Kalpana were into a relationship after the latter’s divorce. However, Sai killed Kalapana after she started pressuring for marriage, Chhattisgarh police had revealed in a press conference on February 14.

Police sources said efforts are on to trace the vehicles which were used to commit the gruesome murder. On February 16, Sai’s driver Burdhan Toppo was taken to the spot at Hamirpur where the entire sequence of crime was recreated.
