Bhubaneswar: A team of Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) is likely to visit spot to conduct a detailed probe into the mysterious death of engineer Amrut Das, whose mother and brother had recently attempted suicide near Odisha Assembly alleging shoddy police investigation.

The father and brother of the deceased engineer on Friday deposed before the OHRC to present their views on the matter. The next hearing in the case has been fixed to December 28.

Deceased Amrut’s mother and brother had recently brought serious allegations against some senior political leaders of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD).

Addressing a press conference in Kujang on December 1, Amrut’s brother Subrat Das who tried to set himself on fire in front of the Odisha Assembly on 28 November alleged, “There are a lot of political leaders involved in the murder of my brother. The SP of Jagatsinghpur lied about his death bowing down to the pressure put by the Home Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra himself.”

“The SP was silent for one year. He is lying now under pressure from influential politicians. They have not conducted the investigation properly. The police neither inspected the SIM card nor verified the certificates of my son,” added Amrut’s mother Sulochana.

It is pertinent to mention here that the body of Amruta Das of Kujang was found lying on Cuttack-Paradip State Highway at Balipatna near Tirtol on July 20, 2019.

SP, Jagatsinghpur R Prakash recently had clarified that Amrut Das died from accident. However, the family members alleged that Amrut was brutally murdered and cops are trying to dispose the matter by terming the death as an accident.

Amrut’s mother had earlier filed a petition in Kujang JMFC which subsequently directed the police to investigate the case. Sub-divisional police officer, Tirtol had conducted a thorough inquiry which found no evidence of murder. The SDPO had also submitted inquiry report in the court, sources said.
