Balasore: A colony of where workers of the Emami Paper Mill in Balasore live with their family was declared a micro-containment zone on Monday after 101 persons were found positive for Covid-19. Earlier two Covid-19 cases were reported from the factory few days back.

District administration officials said that a total of 158 Covid-19 cases were reported from Balasore in the past 24 hours. Of those cases, 101 cases have been reported from the paper mill alone.

“All the cases are asymptomatic. We have declared the colony a micro-containment zone. We have also set up two Covid Care Centre (CCC) with 50 and 15 beds respectively where the workers, who have tested positive for the virus, can stay in isolation for 7 days,” said Balasore CDMO, Dulalsen Jagdev.

Jagdev further said that at present one unit of the factory will be sealed for a temporary period while two other units from where no cases were detected will continue operations.
Jagdev further informed that the managing director of the unit recently tested positive for Covid-19. “Later, we set up a camp and collected samples of 125 persons at the factory for tests,” he said.

Meanwhile, the total active case load in Balasore district now stands at 290 after the detection of 158 new Covid-19 cases.

The State meanwhile, recorded 1741 positive cases in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day spike in the last over four months time.
