Baripada: The carcass of an elephant was found in Chaturighati forest under Kendumundi range of Mayurbhanj district today. The elephant is believed to be four to five years old.

According to sources, the elephant had reportedly come from Similipal forest area and was moving in Kendumani range. Preliminary investigations revealed that the elephant was sick for the last few days.

The elephant carcass was later buried after post-mortem, sources added.

Batakrushna Padhi, ACF, Karanjia Forest Division said "The male elephant which was around 4-5 years old was found dead. It reportedly died of infection and dehydration. The post-mortem report is awaited."

In a similar incident last month, a decomposed carcass of an elephant calf was found inside Similipal National Park. It was suspected to have died of some infection.
