Electric Wheels To Boost Income Of Odisha Potters: Union Minister Pratap Sarangi

Bhubaneswar: Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Pratap Sarangi today distributed 'Electric Potter Wheels' in Puri and said that it will help augment the financial condition and boost the socio-economic condition of potters in Odisha.

The electric wheels will lessen physical work of potters and it can be run by everyone in a family. It is time-efficient and will boost production, said Sarangi.

Under the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, the wheels were distributed free of cost to 120 families in the first phase, especially to those hit by cyclone Fani last year.

"It is for the first time that such an initiative has been taken by the Central government to connect these people with the mainstream. We have a list of 500 more potters and we will sanction the wheels soon," said Vinai Kumar Saxena, chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission.

"We hope it will be effective and boost our production. Apart from clays pots, we will try making terracotta products with the electric wheels," said a beneficiary potter.
