Bhubaneswar: A day after Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik received Covid-19 vaccine dose, several sitting MLAs and former legislators took the jab at the Assembly dispensary here on Tuesday.

The MLAs, former MLAs and staff of the Assembly who are above 60 years of age and have co-morbidities received the shots.

Those who had not made advance registration through online mode, registered themselves on the spot with relevant documents and took the jab.

The MLAs, who were administered the vaccine shot, were Sura Routray, his wife, MLA Adhiraj Panigrahy, Nabacharan Majhi, Arvind Dhali, Srikant Sahu, Amar Prasad Satpathy, and former MLA Sitakant Mohapatra.

Congress legislature party chief Narasingh Mishra took the vaccine shot at a health centre in Bolangir while Kalahandi MP Basant Panda received the jab at Nuapada district headquarters hospital. They all have appealed to the public to come forward and grab the opportunity to rid State of Covid-19 disease.

"We all were eagerly waiting for this day. I appeal to all the eligible beneficiaries to take the opportunity. I can say today that Coronavirus has been defeated," said Adhiraj Panigrahi, a congress MLA said.

His party colleague and Jatni MLA Sura Routray said "I didn't feel any serious side effect of the vaccine. I was not afraid of the vaccine, but waiting till Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s turn. As soon as they took the shot, I rushed to the Assembly dispensary today to take the opportunity."
