Apart from education, the entire world has diverted its attention towards a good health care system,” said President Ram Nath Kovind while inaugurating the Super Specialty Hospital and Ispat Post Graduate Institute at the Rourkela Steel Plant here today.

He said that the hospital here will not only carter to the needs of the city denizens but also people from neighbouring States like Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh will be greatly benefitted.

Kovind further pointed out that the hospital, which was constructed within two years, will also generate employment opportunities directly and indirectly for the youths in the region.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised to convert the Ispat General Hospital into a super specialty hospital six years back and the promise was converted into reality today, the President said.

Lauding the tireless efforts of the doctors, nurses, paramedical staff, sanitary workers, the President said “Our brothers and sisters who are associated with the health care sector have fought an extraordinary battle against an unknown and unseen enemy like Coronavirus."

Extending his gratitude towards the health scientists working in the pharmaceutical laboratories, Kovind said that India has initiated a largest vaccination programme only due to the vigorous efforts of these scientists.

"India has not only become 'Atma Nirbhar' in the development of vaccine, but it has supplied the same to other countries at free of cost or with very low cost, which gives an impetus to our great tradition 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam."

He said that the pandemic has taught us a lesson that how to develop our health infrastructure.

Sources said, the Super specialty hospital with 200 beds will provide better services to the patients in the field Neurology, Neuro Surgery, Cardiology, Cardio Thoracic & Vascular Surgery, and Nephrology.

During the occasion, the President said, "The name of Rourkela is quite inspiring. Its meaning in the local Sadri dialect goes like this 'Rour' means 'Your' and 'Kela' means 'Village'.

"Odisha is renowned for its prosperous heritage & proud glorious history. Ashoka The Great learned the value of Ahimsa (Non-Violence) on this virtuous land. The great valour of this State has been inspiring India for ages," he said.
