Puri: The flying squad of Election Commission seized cash around Rs 15 lakh from a motorcyclist at Gopinathpur Chhak under Brahmagiri police limits of the district today.

While conducting raids at several places in the district, the flying squad led by the district returning officer intercepted a biker and seized cash worth Rs 14,68,500 from his possession.

Subsequently, the special squad detained two persons for questioning and a probe was launched to ascertain the sources of the amount.

Speaking on the matter, Puri Collector Jyotiprakash Das said, “The unaccounted cash has been seized and an FIR has also been lodged in this regard. A further probe into the matter is underway.”

Earlier, the poll officials had seized unaccounted cash worth Rs 27 lakh in the district, the Collector added.
The flying squad has intensified checking to curb the inflow of black money in elections in a bid to ensure a free and fair poll in the district.
