Angul: The bug of adulteration and supply of fake commodities has spread its tentacles to almost every nook and corner of Odisha as Police Saturday unearthed a spurious chips manufacturing unit in Bhandubar area of Angul.

As per reports, acting on a tip-off a special squad of police today conducted a raid at the illegal factory that was preparing spurious chips for the innocent consumers.

Following the raid, Police have detained a person. This apart, the cops have seized labels of several top brands, machinery and raw materials used in the production of chips, sources said.

On Tuesday, a special squad of police busted a spurious soft drinks manufacturing unit at Mancheswar Industrial Estate in the capital city of Odisha.

According to reports, a special squad of Odisha police raided a location in Mancheswar Industrial Estate while acting on allegations of manufacturing of cold drinks using labels of branded firms and also in the name of unregistered companies.

Police seized huge stock of adulterated soft drink bottles from the factory during the raid apart from recovering wrappers, bottles, huge quantity of raw materials and many boxes of soft drinks.

Reportedly, the soft drink manufacturing unit was operating without any license and trademarks. The factory was selling spurious soft drink using duplicate name of famous brand in similar type of bottle packaging and logo.

“The food safety licence of the unit is being examined. Samples of the adulterated food products have been seized and sent to a laboratory for testing,” said an official.
