Bhubaneswar: Battling with incessant rains for the last three days, people in Odisha finally got some relief as the copious rains have abated across the State. Citing that the low pressure system over Bay of Bengal has weakened, the prediction by regional Meteorological Department that Odisha is likely to witness a dry weather this Diwali on Sunday has brought good news for the people.

"The low pressure system over Bay of Bengal has weakened. Odisha will not witness major rainfall activity. However, light to moderate rainfall accompanied with lightning may occur today in some isolated places in the coastal and interior parts of the State including Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Khurda and Ganjam districts as a trough line still passes through Odisha up to central Assam across Gangetic West Bengal," said Madan Mohan Das, Duty Officer, Regional Met Centre, Bhubaneswar.

"The above districts along with one or two places in the North and South Odisha will receive light to moderate rainfall tomorrow. But there will not be heavy rainfall. Winter onset in Odisha will be soon after the rain subsides," he added.
