Sundergarh: A two wheeler rider near Ghoghar square under Rajgangpur Police limits in Sundergarh district was fined a whopping Rs 22,500 on various charges of violation of amended Motor Vehicle Act 2019 late Saturday night by the Transport Department.

As per reports, the Sundergarh Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials were conducting a vehicle checking near Ghoghar square to nab traffic regulation offenders.

They intercepted a biker suspecting him of driving under the impact of alcohol. Asked to produce papers of the vehicle, the biker identified as Livban Bada from Jaspur, Chhattisgarh could neither produce his valid Driving License nor any third party insurance certificate.

After interrogation, the cops tested him with a breath analyser and found his blood alcohol level of 88mg/11mg from his breath, which was way above the permitted level of alcohol in one's blood stream.

Following interrogation, the police found that even the two-wheeler did not belong to Livban. In fact it belonged to one Guna Bada, a resident of Jalda in Rourkela.

The transport department officials immediately issued a challan of Rs 22,500 that included, Rs 500 for general offence, Rs 5000 for allowing others to drive vehicle without valid DL, Rs 5000 again for driving vehicle without valid DL, Rs 10,000 for drunken driving and Rs 2000 for plying without insurance.

Both the vehicle and its rider were handed over to the Rajgangpur police station, where the police would take appropriate action against the offender.

Notably, the Cuttack RTO last week had imposed Rs 10,000 penalty on a bus driver for allegedly driving the vehicle in an inebriated condition. The bus was reportedly en route to Kolkata from Cuttack.

The State Transport has already issued clear warning to all local authorities regarding strict implementation of MV Act regulations from January 2021 which were relaxed in view of Covid pandemic restrictions.
