Malkangiri: Doctors are often regarded as ‘second God’ as they can save lives. A doctor in Odisha’s remote Malkangiri district has given a new lease of life to a tribal woman by conducting a complex surgery to remove a large tumour from her body sans necessary infrastructure and equipment at the hospital.

Despite all odds, Dr Sapan Dindo and his team successfully removed a tumour weighing nine kilograms from the woman patient’s body. Pramila, daughter of Ram Duria of Chalanguda village was admitted to Asha Kiran hospital after she complained of acute pain in her abdomen. Only after a diagnosis, it was found that Pramila had a tumour inside her body.

Though the doctors advised Pramila’s family to shift her to Visakhapatnam, they expressed their inability due to their poor financial background. With no other option, the family members then admitted Pramila to Malkangiri district headquarters hospital. Later, Dr Sapan conducted the surgery which lasted for a couple of hours and successfully removed the tumour.
