Berhampur: A police team on Saturday seized firecrackers worth around Rs 70 lakh following a raid on an illegal manufacturing unit at Aska in Ganjam district.

As per reports, three truckloads of crackers have been seized from the factory. Further investigation is underway into the seizure.

It is pertinent to mention here that Odisha government had recently prohibited the sale and use of firecrackers between November 10 and November 30 in view of the COVID-19 pandemic situation.

“It is a well-known fact that burning firecrackers releases copious amounts of harmful chemicals like nitrous oxide, sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide which have a severe impact on the respiratory health of vulnerable groups. Such pollutants can further aggravate the health conditions of Covid-19 positive persons besides persons staying in home isolation,” a notification issued by Odisha government read.
