Kalahandi: A month after the shocking gang rape of a girl in Jaring forest in Junagarh area sparked state-wide outcry, a differently-abled girl was allegedly raped on multiple occasions by a Sarpanch of the same area in Kalahandi.

As per reports, the girl used to work as domestic help at the residence of Sarpanch Amulya Biswal where he allegedly raped her several times. The matter came to light after family members of the girl found that she was 7-month pregnant.

When they inquired about the matter, the survivor failed to narrate the ordeal she went through, as she can't speak or hear, however, she managed to identify the accused.

Despite a complaint before the village panchayat, no action was taken against the accused instead the survivor and her family members were warned by the village Kangaroo court to suppress the matter. The survivor also allegedly received death threat from some people.

Speaking on the incident, brother of the survivor said, "My sister was impregnated by Amulya. He must marry her and take care of the child after her delivery."

Later, when the family members of the girl brought the matter to the notice of Kalahandi Superintendent of Police, he assured to take stringent action against the accused.

After a preliminary probe, police today arrested the prime accused in connection with the incident.

Responding to the case, Junagarh MLA Dibyashankar Mishra said, "I have spoken to the SP regarding the case. The accused will be punished after the completion of investigation."
