Balasore: In yet another instance of sheer disrespect to the dead, which in many ways also reflects the failure of government schemes in Odisha, body of an 'unidentified' elderly person was carried on a garbage trolley from Soro hospital to the burial ground today.

According to reports, the elderly man had died while undergoing treatment at the hospital some three days back.

Though the body was kept at the hospital mortuary, police handed it over to the staff of local municipality after tagging it as unidentified as no claimants were there.

Not only the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, under what circumstances the body was handed over to municipality staff for cremation is also unclear.

"As I took charge today, I have no information about the incident. A detailed inquiry would be conducted into the matter," said Soro Municipality executive officer, Priyabrat Padhi.
