Jharsuguda: The long standing demand for direct flight connectivity from Jharsuguda to Kolkata was fulfilled with Alliance Air’s flight taking off from Veer Surendra Sai Airport on Monday.

The daily direct flight services on the Kolkata-Jharsuguda-Kolkata route have been made operational to boost communication facilities under the regional air connectivity UDAN scheme. Earlier, Alliance Air was offering flight services from Jharsuguda to Kolkata via Raipur.

“As there was no direct connectivity, we were facing problems. Now we expect that all such issues will be resolved,” said an air traveller.

According to official sources, the Alliance Air flight will depart from Kolkata at 11.45 AM and reach the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda at 1.15 PM. Similarly, it will leave Jharsuguda at 1.45 PM and reach Kolkata at 3.15 PM on a daily basis.

At present, SpiceJet is operating its flight services to Delhi, Kolkata, Varanasi, Raipur and Bhubaneswar from Jharsuguda airport.

“We had started ticket bookings from January 22 and though the number was less, we will start the services as there is excitement among the passengers. The passengers are happy to get air connectivity at such a low fare. We hope that more passengers will avail our services,” said Abhijit Satpathy, an official of Alliance Air.
