Bhubaneswar/Rourkela: Expressing disappointment over inaction after repeated reminders, senior BJP leader and Rourkela MLA Dillip Ray has finally decided to quit the saffron party alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to fulfill his promises made to the people of the steel city.
While speaking to OTV, the Rourkela legislator said that he would resign from BJP and his MLA post tomorrow.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had promised upgradation of the Rourkela Ispat General Hospital (IGH) into a super specialty hospital and construction of the second bridge on Brahmani River ahead of the general elections in 2014 during a public meeting in the city.
However, Dillip Ray has been critical of such promises as the work on the projects has not progressed.
"All Ray wanted was welfare of his people but hindrances were placed before him. Disappointed at the treatment meted out to him by the party leaders in the State and at the Centre, Ray has taken the decision," said a local.
It is believed that Ray's resignation will also be a serious blow to the 'Mission 120 seats' of the BJP in Odisha.
On the other hand, speculations are rife that another senior leader of Odisha BJP Bijoy Mohapatra will also put down his papers tomorrow.
Mohapatra today hinted at resigning from the BJP and said he held discussions with Ray on Thursday and he would take a final decision in this regard on Friday.
Meanwhile, State BJP unit president Basant Panda said whether to stay or leave the party is an individual's personal decision.
"No one should doubt the credibility of PM Modi. As Modiji has promised, he will definitely fulfill it. Work is underway and it's nothing like no steps have been taken yet. It's unfortunate, if someone leaves citing some official lacunae," said Panda, adding that Ray is yet to speak to him on the issue.
