Malkangiri: Security forces have already penetrated into more than half of the Swabhiman Anchal, which was once dominated by the Maoists, and several BSF camps have been set up in the area to take on the red rebels. However, the ultras have once again become active with several attacks leading to a halt in the developmental works in the region.

On December 17, Maoists killed a contractor. Subsequently, they also set ablaze several vehicles engaged in developmental works in the region- just 6 km away from a BSF camp.

Though Odisha DGP Abhay has been visiting and reviewing the situation in the Mao-affected areas at regular intervals, people seem to be in constant fear of the ultras' attack.

"We are living in a state of constant fear. I appeal the government to look into the developmental works and deploy more security forces to carry out the works smoothly in the region," said a local.

It is believed that the establishment of BSF camps has created panic among the Maoists and out of that fear, they are launching attacks in the areas where camps are yet to be set up.

Meanwhile, the district police have said that the anti-Maoist campaign will be intensified in the upcoming days and all steps are being taken to provide security to the locals.

"Maoists are trying to create fear among the locals. However, police and BSF are taking stringent measures and have intensified search operations in the region," Malkangiri SDPO Prahlad Meena said.
