Bhubaneswar: With Odisha registering more than four-fold rise in the Dengue cases this season as compared to last year, the vector-borne disease seems to be hitting Nayagarh hard.
According to sources, on a daily basis, more than 10 patients are being admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) triggering panic among the locals.
“After undergoing treatment for three days, the doctors finally informed me that I am suffering from Dengue. They referred me to Bhubaneswar,” a patient said.
A local resident Ranjeet Sahu said that despite presence of a Dengue ward inside the hospital, patients are not being admitted to the special ward but are being referred to distant hospitals.
‘Similarly, even as the disease is spreading in both rural and urban areas of the district, the administration is so far apathetic to the situation,” Sahu added.
On the other hand, the administration has refuted the allegations.
Suresh Kumar Mishra, doctor of the Nayagarh DHH said that the Dengue ward is functioning well and people are being treated under expert supervision. He added that people suffering from severe complications are only referred to other hospitals.
Accepting the rising cases of vector-borne disease throughout the state, earlier last week, the State government had informed that between January and July this year the total number of dengue cases stood at 1,841 which is significantly higher than 412 cases registered during the corresponding period last year.
