Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Pradesh Mahila Congress today gave an ultimatum of two days to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for dismissal of Agriculture Minister Pradeep Maharathy from the State Cabinet following the latter's remarks on Pipili gang rape and murder verdict.

President of the Mahila Congress, Sumitra Jena, said if the Chief Minister fails to take action against the minister they will gherao the Naveen Niwas on January 3.

“Congress activists will oppose Maharathy at different functions and public meetings. He has been a ‘goonda’ of the chief minister,” Jena alleged.

Neither Maharathy nor the BJD have responded to Pradesh Mahila Congress' ultimatum.

It is pertinent to mention that Congress women activists on Thursday staged demonstration before the Agriculture minister’s official residence and hurled eggs and tomatoes at his house.
Maharathy had courted a controversy by saying that that he welcomed the judgement and also said that the victim got justice.

On December 24, the court of additional district judge court in Bhubaneswar had acquitted the two accused arrested in the case.
