Bhubaneswar: The mass disconnection of electricity supply will begin as per schedule with defaulting commercial consumers and households who despite being capable to repay have not deliberately cleared their arrears by 15 January 2020 will face the termination first, Senior General Manager of CESU, Manoj Singh informed today.

Addressing queries by the media, Singh reiterated CESU’s resolve to start the disconnection drive from January 16, 2020. He said, “In the first phase, we will start terminating power supply of the commercial consumers including the economically strong domestic consumers who despite having the capability to repay the bills have withheld the payment deliberately.”

It will include high load domestic consumers having multi storied house, Air Conditioners, four wheeler etc. Those who pay income tax but not clearing their electricity dues will also be included in the list. In the 3rd phase of disconnection drive, all other consumers will be covered. It will specially focus on the consumers who have not paid electricity dues for years together, he said.

Singh further said, “413 squads have been formed to carry out this exercise in nine districts under the jurisdiction of CESU. They will move in their assigned route and disconnect the power supply of defaulting consumers.”

“Reports that thousands of villages will go dark are untrue as only the identified defaulting consumers will lose power supply,” added Singh.

Notably, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CESU, Arun Bothra had announced this decision on 10 December 2019 and provided the deadline of 15 January 2020 for the defaulting consumers to clear their dues.
