Bhubaneswar: A decomposed body of a man was found hanging from a tree in a forest here on the ouskirts of the State Capital on Sunday.

The body has been recovered by the police in the forest behind the government engineering college near Ghatikia.

The deceased has been identified as Raghunath Behera alias Kalia, a resident of Ghatikia. Police have sent the body to a local hospital for post-mortem and launched investigation after registering a case in this regard.

Villagers said that Raghunath had gone missing for around a month. “We have also lodged a missing complaint at Bharatpur police station 25 days ago. Today, a village boy who is working at a hotel in Bhubaneswar found his decomposed body hanging from a tree. He informed fellow villagers and family members of Raghunath, who rushed to the spot and identified the body,” Sanjay Bhoi, a neighbour of the deceased said.

Addicted to drug, Raghunath had earlier been lodged at a drug de-addiction centre. He was mentally unstable for last few months, Bhoi added.

His family members used to keep a close watch on him as he had also earlier attempted suicide. But, he managed to flee from the house last month and remained incommunicado since then, Bhoi added.
