Kalahandi: After a long wait of more than two decades, people of Kalahandi will be provided electricity from Indravati Hydropower Project, a grid of which was inaugurated by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in presence of State Energy Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra through a virtual conference at Baner under Jaipatna block on Friday.
In the first phase, Jaipatna, Kalampur, and Koksara block will be provided electricity from the Odisha Hydro Power Corporation Limited (OHPC) project.
Naveen expressed his happiness over the inauguration of the grid. “It’s a great day for the people of Kalahandi. I am very happy that three blocks of the district will be provided electricity from the project,” he said.
It may be noted that the OHPC project was made functional at Mukhiguda under Jaipatna block of Kalahandi in 1999, but thousands of people in the district were not provided electricity from the project.
Now, their dream will be realised soon, as the energy department has decided to provide electricity to people in three blocks in the first phase from the project.
“The project will be helpful for agricultural and industrial activities in the district. We are very happy that we will get rid of low voltage problem and get electricity for 24 hours from the project,” a local denizen said.
