Cuttack: The special squad of Commissionerate Police in Cuttack arrested a youth from Gujarat for allegedly sending death threat to BJD Rajya Sabha member and Ollywood actor Anubhav Mohanty.

According to reports, one Dipu Barik alias Kalia from Berhampur in Ganjam district had allegedly demanded Rs 10 lakh from Anubhav on Whatsapp, and had issued a death threat if the parliamentarian failed to fulfil the extortion demand.

The Commissionerate Police initiated an investigation after Anubhav filed an FIR with Purighat Police over the incident on April 29.

"One Dipu Barik alias Kalia from Khallikote was staying in Jhanjirmangala area in Cuttack and was working as a daily labourer. Somehow, he got his (Anubhav's) number and was playing prank with the star by issuing such threats on WhatsApp," said Cuttack DCP Akhileshwar Singh.

"During interrogation, we didn’t come across any of his criminal past or any present criminal intention towards Anubhav. However, a probe into the matter is underway. Further action will be taken against him based on the evidence which surfaces as the probe progresses," added the DCP.

Speaking to the media persons about the development, Anubhav said, "I thank the Odisha Police for acting swiftly and apprehending the youth from Gujarat. I got an opportunity to meet him (Kalia). He is not consistent on his statements. I don’t think it as any big issue, however, as the investigation is going on the law will take its own course. Everything will happen as per the law."

Sources said that the accused will be forwarded to the court later today.
