Balasore/Telangana: Tension prevailed at Nilagiri block after the body of a migrant labourer, who allegedly died under mysterious circumstances in Telangana on Friday, arrived at his native place in Narasinghpur village in Balasore district today. The deceased, identified as Manoranjan Mahapatra, was working at Telangana crushers quarry at Karim Nagar for the last ten years.

According to reports, locals detained the ambulance and the officials of the granite factory after they reached Narsinghpur village with Mahapatra’s body today.

The villagers alleged that Mahapatra died after being trapped under huge stones while working in the factory. However, the company authorities tried to suppress the matter and provided a compensation of Rs 15,000 only to the family members of the deceased.

Following the protest, the officials announced an additional ex-gratia of Rs 5,000 but the villagers denied releasing them.

Meanwhile, the family members and villagers lodged an FIR with Nilagiri police in connection with the death of Mahapatra under mysterious circumstances.

On getting information regarding the detention of some officials of the company, Nilagiri SDPO rushed to Narsinghpur village and has started an investigation into the incident.

Earlier, a case was in connection with Odia labourer's death was also registered by Telangana Police.
