Bhubaneswar: As many as 1219 people tested positive for Covid-19 and 16 patients undergoing treatment at various hospitals succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours, informed the State Health and Family Welfare Department.

With this surge, the cumulative infection in the State rose to 302793 while the death toll has climbed to 1441.

Of the new cases reported from all the 30 districts, 708 were from quarantine and the rest 511 are local contacts. Sundargarh and Balasore districts have topped the Covid chart with the detection of 107 fresh cases each. For the first time in several months, Cuttack (106) and Khordha (92) districts have a combined daily figure below 200, as per the date of Information and Public Relations department.

It is worth mentioning here that more than three months after July 22, Khordha has witnessed Covid-19 cases below 100. The surge in infection in Sundargarh continues to hover around the 100-mark in the last couple of months.

The total infections in Khordha now stand at 49,979 which includes 1396 active cases, 48322 recoveries, and 251 deaths.

In the past 24 hours, three deaths each were reported from Khordha and Keonjhar districts, and two in Sambalpur. Balasore, Bargarh, Cuttack, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Sundargarh, Boudh district recorded one each death during the period. At least 53 persons infected with COVID-19 patients have died due to pre-existing ailments, added the health department.

H&FW department also shared the details of the 16 Covid-19 patients who succumbed while undergoing treatment at various hospitals:

    1. A 55-year-old female of Balasore district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
    2. A 57-year-old male of Bargarh district.
    3. A 53-year-old male of Bhubaneswar who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension & Psychiatry Disorder.
    4. A 62-year-old male of Bhubaneswar.
    5. A 64-year-old male of Boudh district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
    6. A 75-year-old male of Cuttack district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
    7. A 46-year-old male of Jajpur district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus.
    8. A 55-year-old male of Keonjhar district.
    9. A 38-year-old male of Keonjhar district.
    10. An 80-year-old female of Keonjhar district.
    11. A 65-year-old male of Khordha district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
    12. A 65-year-old male of Mayurbhanj district who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus & Hypertension.
    13. A 51-year-old male of Nayagarh district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
    14. A 70-year-old male of Sambalpur district.
    15. A 90-year-old male of Sambalpur district who was also suffering from Hypertension.
    16. A 45-year-old male of Rourkela who was also suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension with Post Renal Transplant.

After today’s surge, the active cases in the State went up to 13131 while 288168 positive patients have so far recovered. Reports reveal 45160 samples were tested in the last 24 hours taking the cumulative tests to 4984550 in Odisha.
