Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued cyclone warning for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts.

As per the latest bulletin, the Depression over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved nearly north-westwards in past six hours and lay centred at about 600 km south-southeast of Puducherry and 630 km south-southeast of Chennai.

The system is very likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move north-westwards and cross Tamil Nadu and Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mamallapuram around November 25 afternoon, the IMD alert stated.

Though an alert has been sounded for Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal south Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema and Telangana, there will be no direct impact of the cyclone on the districts of Odisha, said IMD’s Regional Centre in Bhubaneswar.

However, rainfall activity with isolated heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some districts of south Odisha between November 25 and 26.

Squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 Kmph is likely over southwest and adjoining West-central Bay of Bengal on November 23 and it would increase gradually to 65-75 kmph gusting to 85 Kmph over southwest and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal till November 25, 2020.
