Cuttack: There seems to be no let-up in the cyber fraud with a doctor from the Silver City of Cuttack becoming the latest victim of the scamster.

The doctor, Sanatan Mohanty, a native of CDA Sector-7, lost over Rs 77 lakh to the fraudsters who cheated him on the pretext of activating his mobile SIM card.

The major fraud came to light after the doctor lodged a complaint regarding the fraudulent transactions amounting to Rs 77,86,727 with the Cyber Police station.

In his complaint, Mohanty said, he received a call on February 9 where the callers told that his BSNL SIM card will become inactive soon and offered help to reactivate the SIM card. During the call, the callers tricked him into sharing his debit card number and bank details.

"Thereafter, all of a sudden I received a message on my mobile from SBI that my ATM has been closed on February 9, 6.35 pm. After an inquiry from SBI, Bidanasi branch, I came to know that Rs 25292.98 and Rs 24284.21 have been deducted from my bank account in two transactions," the doctor stated in his complaint.

The complainant said when he visited Bidanasi SBI branch, the branch manager said a new ATM card will be issued and also assured that no fraud transaction will occur further.

"On February 15, I went to Tulasipur SBI branch and came to know that multiple transactions are continuing from February 9 to February 15 without my knowledge amounting to Rs 77,86,727," Mohanty alleged.

The complainant requested the IIC to inquire into the matter and take immediate steps to stop the fraudulent transactions and revert back the money.
