Cuttack Man Gets Lifer For Raping, Impregnating Daughter

Cuttack: The Special POCSO Court Cuttack has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping and impregnating his minor daughter.

According to a press release by the Commissionerate Police, the court has convicted Suryamani Behera, a resident of Dagarpada for life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 20,000 for raping his 15-year-old daughter on multiple occasions.

The matter came to fore after the mother of the girl lodged a written complaint at Mahila police station in this connection. Police registered a case over the matter on December 25, 2018, under section 376(2) and POCSO Act. (GR No. 171/2018).

The case was investigated by Inspector Anusaya Nayak IIC, Mahila Police Station. In the meantime, the survivor girl later gave birth to a baby girl.

The charge-sheet was submitted on March 11, 2019, after establishing prima facie evidence U/s 376(2)(m)(n)/ 376(3) IPC/ 6 POCSO Act upon completion of all the scientific methods of investigations including the DNA profiling, the police release stated.
