Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Saturday arrested two gold traders for their alleged involvement in the sensational dacoity at the India Infoline Finance Ltd (IIFL) in Naya Sarak area on November 19.

The accused have been identified as Saroj Prusty and Lalit Kumar Sodhi of Mangalabag and Alamchand Bazar respectively.

Police sources said both Prusty and Sodhi are the associates of Lala Amrit Ray, one of the masterminds of the day-light dacoity case who was earlier arrested by the Commissionerate Police.

With Prusty and Sodhi the total number of persons arrested in the IIFL loot case has gone up to 10 by Saturday.

Lala Amrit Ray was working in the company for the past five years. He along with a senior woman officer of the private finance company, Nilima Lenka of Purighat, had allegedly planned the loot.

Police sources revealed that both Amrit and Nilima handed over the keys of the strong room and locker of the firm, which keeps gold as mortgage for disbursing loans in exchange, to the robbers on the day of the incident.

Preliminary investigation by a joint team of the Commissionerate Police and Special Squad has revealed that both Amrit and Nilima, who were working as gold loan auditors, had cleverly swindled returns of depositors by not deleting their names from creditors’ list of the company.

Apart from Amrit and Nilima, a manager in a private gold loan firm had also been arrested in the middle of his marriage procession by the Crime Branch.

Following the manager’s arrest, the bride and her family who were waiting at a hotel they had booked for the wedding, had to pack up and cancel the event.

On Friday, the police took all the accused to the spot to reconstruct the crime scene. It is likely that many more suspects are going to be rounded up as the investigation into the case progresses.
