Cuttack: Preparations are on in full swing in the silver city for the historic ‘Bali Yatra’ which is scheduled to begin from November 23 and the administration is leaving on stone unturned to make it a grand success this year.

According to sources, the process of allocation of plots for setting up stalls is underway and the Cuttack Collector along with the DCP today made a field visit to the Bali Yatra ground and reviewed preparations.

The district administration has taken several steps to make the festival attractive this year. Special programmes like horse riding, boating in Mahanadi River and dog shows have been planned.

The administration is also planning to telecast live hockey matches of the World Cup hosted by Odisha on a big screen.

“We will promote hockey in this year’s Bali Yatra as the World Cup is being held in Bhubaneswar. We are also planning to display live hockey matches on big screens near the stalls,” Cuttack Collector, Arvind Agarwal said.

Agarwal further added, “A ‘city festival’ as a sub-component is also scheduled this year where renowned artists will be invited for live performances.”

Sources said a special chemical will be used in the whole ground for making the festival dust free whereas parking fees has been exempted this year. Similarly special steps are being taken by the administration to make the festival polythene and garbage free.

“The parking problem has been sorted out and special measures have been taken by the administration for lighting and making the festival dust free," Cuttack Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Sarat Nayak said.

According to reports, more than 1300 stalls will feature in this year’s Bali Yatra.

It is pertinent to mention that the historic ‘Bali Yatra’ festival in Cuttack, beginning November 23, will be held for 11 days this year instead of seven.
