Cuttack: In view of a steady rise in the number of Covid-19 cases especially at educational institutes, students of Bhubanananda Orissa School of Engineering (BOSE) have demanded postponement of their examinations scheduled for tomorrow.

Their demand comes after three students of the reputed government engineering school tested positive for the virus. Apprehending further spread, they staged protest in front of the main gate. They have also demanded online examination instead of offline mode.

Other demands include sanitisation of college and hostels, testing of other students.

Meanwhile, the school authorities have apprised students' demand to the State Council and secretary.

"They have demanded postponement of their examination after three students tested positive for the virus. They have also demanded to conduct test of other students with proper contact tracing. We have made arrangements for a mass testing. We have apprised their demand to the higher authorities," Jnana Ranjan Ray, BOSE principal said.

The hostel rooms have been sanitised. The CMC authorities have been asked to sanitise other area in the campus, Ray added.

All the infected students have been admitted to the isolation ward at SCB Medical College and Hospital, he added.

Similarly, students at Utkalmani Goapabandhu College of Engineering, Rourkela, UCP engineering school at Berhampur and Remuna Polytechnic college have demanded on-line examination due to a surge in the Covid-19 cases.
