Cuttack: In a bid to ensure that help reaches people in distress on time, Cuttack district administration is going to launch a new initiative called ‘Tu Mo Sahara.’

Cuttack Collector Bhabani Shankar Chayani informed that the campaign will be basically a social security system to assist and provide immediate assistance to people in distress apart from several vulnerable groups like the senior citizens and women.

“We are trying to come up with an institutional support system to extend assistance and services to people at their doorsteps. Besides, it will also help people to seek help in times of any emergency situation or distress,” said Chayani.

Chayani further informed that ‘Tu Mo Sahara’ campaign will be first launched in Cuttack city and extended across the district in subsequent phases. It will be basically an integration of technology and human interface where people can report or lodge their grievances through a dedicated phone number or WhatsApp.

Private company will be roped in for the overall management of the new initiative. The representatives will visit people and ensure that their problems are resolved at the earliest, the Collector said.

“Such system is the need of the hour as we found that there is growing demand of ensuring delivery of goods as well as other critical services at the doorsteps of people during the COVID-19 times.

Though local residents have welcomed the initiative, many say that the administration should ensure effective monitoring for success of such system.

“As a senior citizen, I welcome the move of the district administration. But if the services delivery are not ensured on time, then the system will fail in its objective,” said Pavitra Mohan Khatua, a local resident.
