Bhubaneswar: In the largest ever vaccination drive against the corona virus in the country, Odisha on Thursday has scripted a rocking performance among all the states.

With the highest ever achievement rate today, since the beginning of Covid-19 vaccination drive in the State, Odisha today has made it into the top 5 inoculated states in the country.

As per the Union Health Ministry data till the six hours in the evening today, Odisha is only second to Telangana in the country in the number of beneficiaries who took the shot in their arms.

At the end of the vaccination hours today, as per State Health Department data, Odisha saw immunisation of a high of 44,880 individuals against the target of 37,076. The rate of achievement stood at 121 per cent vis-à-vis 89 per cent on Day-4 and 88 per cent on Day-3. On Day-2, the target was 102 per cent. The 121 per cent rate of vaccination is, thus, the highest till date in the State.

AEFI MAP

As on today, when the country has reported a total of 600 AEFI (Adverse Events Following Immunisation) cases, Odisha scripts a better record to show with mere 16 such cases. And all are mild cases, when the country saw hospitalisation of over 10 vaccine recipients till date.

The State today recorded 5 AEFI cases, which has been 0.01 per cent of the total who was inoculated today.

As per State Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra,

“AEFI occurs in 4 ways. First, when a vaccine has some impurities, or the temperature required for storing the vaccines get altered, or the recipients are hyper sensitive to vaccine constituents.”

The reason for low AEFI in Odisha could then be inferred to as: Vaccine recipients here are not prone to drug allergy vis-à-vis other states, and also the handling and transportation of vaccines in the State have been strictly adhered to the SOP issued.

DISTRICT VACCINATION MAP

While the Khordha district has today witnessed the largest vaccination sessions (39) in the State, Boudh, Deogarh and Sonepur have witnessed the least sessions of four each.
