Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has warned of stringent action against unauthorised non-essential cultural programme celebrations in the city amid a spurt in the fresh Covid-19 cases.

In a letter to the owners and managers of all hotels, Kalyan Mandaps and Guest houses in the city, BMC Commissioner Prem Chandra Chaudhary said, “It has come to the notice of BMC that even after issuance of clear cut order regarding celebration of non-essential cultural celebrations, many of Hotels/Kalyan Mandaps/Convention halls/Guest Houses continue to hold non-essential cultural events.”

He said such events are being organized without the permission of BMC or other competent authorities.

“In view of the prevailing pandemic situation, it is to make very clear that such unauthorised cultural celebrations are undesirable and can be responsible for further spread of the COVID virus,” Chaudhary said.

He requested the owners and managers of the hotels and kalyan mandaps to follow the guidelines without fail.

“In case of deviation, strict action as per Indian Penal Code, Epidemic Disease Act, Disaster Management Act and Odisha COVID Regulations 2020 will be initiated against organisers and the owner of the premises,” the BMC commissioner added.
