Cuttack: The district administration has imposed prohibitory orders under section-144 of CrPC at Padma Vana Peetha in Nemala- the birth place of Mahapurusha Achyutananda- in the district.

The district administration took the decision to avoid devotees' congregation tomorrow on the occasion of birth anniversary of the 16th century saint.

Apprehending resurgence of Covid-19, the administration clamped the restriction which will remain in force till 6 pm tomorrow.

However, the function has been allowed with minimum number of servitors amid strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols. Public gathering has been completely banned, the administration stated in its order.

The administrative decision, meanwhile, has evoked mixed reaction.

"There was a spiritual fervour that prevailed at the place for the birth anniversary of the Mahapurusha. The government's restriction due to resurgence of Covid-19 is acceptable, but at the same time it also hurts the religious sentiments of the devotees, a servitor said.

A devotee said "We came to know about the restriction imposed by the administration yesterday. The government took the precautionary measure to check the outbreak of the pandemic. We should observe the religious function by following the government guidelines."
