Covid Fear? Man Refuses To Conduct Mother’s Last Rites In Odisha’s Sambalpur

Bhubaneswar: At a time when the entire country is battling probably the worst phase of Covid-19 pandemic, humanity appears to be on the losing side as well.

The fear of coronavirus infection has now overpowered rationale thinking and humanity above all. In a shocking incident, a man refused to conduct the funeral of his own mother due to fear of getting contracted by the virus.

Such an incident reported from Chiplima area in Sambalpur district has now become the talk of the town.

As per reports, the woman was suffering from fever for the past few days. Suspecting that she might have been infected with Covid-19, her elder son refused to touch her body. When she breathed her last on Thursday, he also refused to perform her last rites.

Not only the woman’s son, locals and her other neighbours also did not come forward for the funeral. It is still unclear if the woman had contracted the Covid-19 virus or not.

Following the incident, the deceased woman’s younger son carried her body in a tricycle and conducted the cremation with assistance from some social voluntary activists.
